Natural Dye Workshop

It’s to Dye for!

Natural dyeing is an exciting form of alchemy with limitless parameters to explore. This workshop will cover the basic processes of natural dyeing and how natural dyes differ from the chemical dyes used in the conventional clothing and home goods market. You will become familiar with the awesome range of color that can be achieved using plants, minerals and insects. Participants will learn how to prepare their fiber, derive color from plants that can be found all around us and apply special dyeing techniques to create handmade, one of a kind pieces! We will touch upon the ancient and unique dyeing techniques of Japanese Shibori, bundle dyeing and other surface dyeing techniques.
One silk and one cotton scarf will be provided for the class. Please bring a notebook if you’d like to keep track of your own personal process. When dyeing we are definitely in the splash zone, so please choose your clothes and shoes accordingly. Since the workshop will be held outdoors, please dress accordingly and plan accordingly. No prior knowledge of textiles or dyeing is required.
We will be covering:-Natural fiber selection and preparation-Working with natural plant and protein dyes-Basic Japanese Shibori folding and tying techniques-Basic bundle-dyeing techniques.

ABOUT HOST MARY CARPENTER OF Bee Wild Farmacy beewildfarmacyboxes.com & Cardinal Cove cardinalcove.me:
"Let Food Be Thy Medicine..." Farming felt right. Finally, a fit after years of searching for my "place". As I learned that new profession, I became fascinated by the wealth and abundance of food and medicine was already growing everywhere I looked. My nerd and my necessity of finding products that didn't interfere with my laundry list of allergies led me to dig deep. What was it, what was it good for, how could I use it. And so I did.
Beginning first with the surplus of Bee Wild Honey collected right on Violet Hill in Central New York, I created. Plants and mushrooms found their place with new products. And the Bee Wild Farmacy grew.
And it continues to grow. As a mom to five kids, grown up to small, I work to create and tweak a product line I feel great about using on, and giving to, them. Always open to suggestions for new products and feedback on current.
Small batch, wildcrafted, lots of love included.
